Shouts for help filled the cold afternoon air as nine year old Lyton frantically tried to stop a flame of fire from traveling quickly up the leg of his trousers. Lyton’s cousin, with whom he had been playing, scrambled away to get help and found Lyton’s father working in the tree nursery nearby. “I rushed like a mad person not having any idea of what had happened,” said his father. As it turned out, the boys had been playing too closely to a fire which they had built when Lyton’s pants caught on fire.

After being rushed to the nearest health clinic where Lyton was given first aid, he was then sent to the district hospital to receive treatment. However, the care he received at the hospital was insufficient. Sometimes Lyton would be left for 3 or 4 days without his wound being cleaned! Worried and discouraged, the family left the hospital.

Lyton’s burn wound caused a contracture in his knee causing him to have to hop on one leg to get around and, thus, unable to attend school. “These days, life is school. My son has to go back to school,” says Lyton’s father. His parents were overjoyed when CURE was able to give this life back to their son. Lyton was booked right away for surgery to correct his leg and give him the ability to walk again. “Since I came to CURE all my worries and fears are gone because my life together with my son is covered with prayers every day. I am experiencing new life every day at CURE,” says Lyton’s father.
